Former Bachelorette star DeAnna Pappas has spoken out following her arrest, revealing troubling details about an altercation with her ex-husband, Stephen Stagliano.
In a declaration obtained by In Touch Weekly, DeAnna, who is now seeking a restraining order, accused Stephen of forcefully shoving her during a heated confrontation at her home.
Recounting the events leading up to the incident, DeAnna stated that Stephen questioned her sobriety as soon as he arrived.
“Stephen told me I needed to walk closer to him because he wanted to smell my breath to make sure that I was not drunk. I had not consumed any alcohol. I ignored Stephen’s comment, and I walked back into the garage,” she wrote.
Things took a turn when Stephen allegedly followed her inside, leaving their daughter alone in his car with the engine running. “I heard a noise behind me.
“I turned around to see Stephen following me into my garage. [Our daughter] had been left alone sitting in his car with the engine running. I tried to shut my garage door. Stephen pushed my garage door upward so that it would not close. I shouted at Stephen to get out of my garage. Stephen refused to leave.”
According to DeAnna, Stephen became physically aggressive, forcing her to retreat for her safety. “Stephen took his hands, grabbing me, and then forcefully shoved me.
He pushed my back again. In fear that he would hurt me, I immediately went back inside the house and locked the door while I waited for the police to arrive. Stephen had told the Sheriff that I was the aggressor who assaulted him, which was false.”
In the latest twist to their ongoing legal battle, Stephen’s mother, Lynn Stagliano, filed a declaration on March 7, alleging that DeAnna had been intoxicated on the morning of February 26.
“On Wednesday, February 26, at 7:38 a.m., I went to DeAnna’s house to help get Austin to school. I very clearly smelled alcohol on DeAnna’s breath. I put Austin in the car and left.”
The legal documents confirm that DeAnna was arrested on February 27 on misdemeanor charges and released later that day after posting a $20,000 bail.
She maintains that, despite Stephen’s accusations, she was never asked to take a sobriety test at the time of her arrest.
“At no time was I requested to test for alcohol despite Stephen’s allegations. In fact, the officer that arrested me exhibited no concern that I was at all intoxicated,” she stated.
She further claimed that she voluntarily agreed to a drug test following the incident, and the results came back negative.
