“The game runs on pure atmosphere”: For Ghost of Yotei to Succeed, Suckerpunch Cannot Repeat the Cardinal Sin of Tsushima That Has Aged Badly

Ghost of Yotei is the upcoming game from Suckerpuch, which is set almost 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, and this time around, the developer needs to fix some things that were lacking in the first game.

Many players felt that Ghost of Tsushima’s open world was not engaging and that most of the side quests were not well thought out, so the game often appeared repetitive. The biggest reason why the side quests were often overlooked was due to the little consequence they had on the main story or the protagonist’s journey.

Ghost of Yotei needs to have an improved open-world

The biggest reason for an open-world game’s success lies in its ability to keep the player hooked at all times in its world and make the world interactive and reactive to the protagonist’s journey with some impact on the main story as well.

Every action should have an equal or opposite reaction; the decision made in-game should in some way or another reflect on the actions that follow. Ghost of Yotei has the opportunity to take the bad elements of its predecessor and refine them.

Since the game is set almost 300 years apart, there is scope to explore the game from a fresh perspective. There are a lot of things that the developer can explore in the game’s open world, including unearthing secrets about Jin Sakai. Repetition, though, might be the upcoming game’s biggest enemy.

Players do not like repetition in any open world’s gameplay since it often teleports the player back into reality instead of providing an immersive experience that flows like honey over the senses, which helps build a sense of belonging with the game’s world.

Ghost of Tsushima is a great game with some minor flaws

Ghost of Tsushima is not the perfect game; it has its problems, but that in no way indicates that it is a bad game. It offers a unique perspective into the lives of the Samurais of a forgotten past, whose inner conflicts are their biggest enemies.

It gives an important lesson in how to kill the demon within without moving away from the path of honor laid down by generations. It questions what honour in reality means, and it is worth fighting for with oneself.

It works on so many levels and leaves the player asking these questions with oneself. However, the gameplay could do well with some adjustments, especially in the side quests area, where this game failed to offer variety. What changes do you want to see in Ghost of Yotei?
