There is no doubt that in a massive world like One Piece, anything can happen. We have seen new connections and theories spring up that were confirmed later in the series.
Now that One Piece is in its last leg, Eiichiro Oda can reveal another shocking idea that can have a tremendous effect on the storyline. The Final Saga is supposed to have some of the biggest revelations surrounding the four emperors, and Buggy’s background might be one of the highlights.
Previously, we saw him as one of the first antagonists that Luffy encountered. Now, he is standing at the pinnacle as one of the most prominent pirates in the world. However, if he shares a secret connection with Rocks D. Xebec, that will definitely change the whole scenario.
Buggy’s possible connection with Rocks D. Xebec
The reason why many fans claim that there is a high chance Buggy might be the son of Rocks D. Xebec is because of the dynamics they both inadvertently share. First of all, they are two very influential pirates who had the very specific goal of becoming King of the World.
Apart from that, if we take into account Oda’s idea of introducing things for a reason, then Buggy’s differences from Shanks also play a role. The existing parallels between Luffy, Blackbeard, Shanks, and Buggy are examples of it.
If Shanks is the opposite of Buggy, who was raised by pirates but came from the Celestial Dragons, then Buggy should have an inverse background. He could be the son of Rocks D. Xebec but was raised by the Marines before he and Shanks became apprentices of the Roger pirates under the late pirate king Gol D. Roger.
However, perhaps the biggest evidence is the obvious similarities we get between Buggy’s crew and Rocks D. Xebec’s crew. The titles that the crew share are almost too identical to miss as we have Mohji, the Beast Tamer from possibly Kaidou of the Beasts, and Richie, the pet lion from Shiki the Golden Lion.
This does not seem like it stems from coincidence, and there is a high chance Oda has been dropping subtle hints about this for a grand revelation.
Buggy’s hidden lineage can be important in One Piece
Buggy has always been more of a comic relief character with a vengeance against Luffy than a serious and menacing pirate. As we still do not know his true name or face, it definitely makes him very mysterious as well.
If his past connection is revealed and he truly does become the son of Rocks D. Xebec, we can have more clarity about why he tries to stay hidden so much. Does he not want anyone to realize his connection to the legendary pirate?
If something like this does come to light, we will again get proof of how far ahead Oda thinks about his characters. He truly is a master at world-building who knows how to create complex and intricate lore, where every character’s personality is the way it is for a reason.

It will definitely be interesting to see what Oda has in his mind for the four emperors. On top of that, Buggy is too interesting a character to be left unexplored. It also will make sense if he is indeed Rocks D. Xebec’s son, for both carry unrivaled charms.
