Bleach: There’s No Real Explanation Behind Kenpachi’s Monstrous Strength but Tite Kubo’s Inspiration Is Even Scarier

Tite Kubo’s Bleach has an array of characters who are capable and worthy in many different aspects. From the protagonist Kurosaki Ichigo to the antagonist Sosuke Aizen, almost every character of Bleach is unique in their own way. Just like that, when it comes to strength, no one can match the capability and aura of Kenpachi Zaraki, one of the most powerful characters of the series.

Kenpachi Zaraki is the current captain of the 11th Division in the Gotei 13, and he is also the 11th holder of the Kenpachi title, which is only given to the strongest soul reaper in the entire Soul Society. This in itself is the explanation of his unprecedented power and strength in Bleach. However, the only problem is that no one knows how Kenpachi became this strong.

His unmeasured strength has been one of the biggest mysteries in Bleach, which fans have tried to figure out for a long time. And while there is no explanation for his power, the inspiration behind his character is something that can be easily interpreted from his development throughout the Bleach storyline.

The unrivalled strength of Kenpachi Zaraki in Bleach

Bleach has a lot of strong and powerful characters, but none of them compares to the might of Kenpachi Zaraki. He is a monstrous swordsman who has taken out the best of the villains in Bleach and didn’t even have a scratch on his body. Not only that, his spiritual pressure and energy omission is one of, if not the highest, in the entire Bleach storyline.

Also, he has never attended the Shinigami Academy but still has managed to master the skills of a soul reaper on his own. This proves that he is a born talent who had power and abilities since the beginning of the series. His ruthless fighting skills make it difficult for his opponents to even stand properly in front of him.

There are many who can’t even handle his spiritual pressure within the series. Plus, he experiences growth after each of his battles, which only adds more power to his arsenal and makes him even lethal for his next opponent in Bleach. He is truly a force of nature whose origins and secret behind the power are unknown.

Tite Kubo’s inspiration behind creating Kenpachi Zaraki

As mentioned above, although Tite Kubo gave character development to Kenpachi in the Bleach storyline, he never revealed many details about his past or his origins. Thus, no one knows how he managed to become so strong and powerful at such a young age and then go on to become a captain of the squad within the Gotei 13.

But through his evolution in Bleach and the way his character is presented, it is safe to say that Kubo took inspiration for his character from the Gashadokuro, a yokai from Japanese folklore that looks like a giant skeleton made of the skulls of warriors who died in the battlefield. They are said to be insanely powerful, and Kenpachi’s spiritual pressure looks just like a Gashadokuro.

Not only that, it is said that a ringing sound is heard whenever the presence of the Gashadokuro is felt, which also references Kenpachi’s bells that are tied at the tip of his hair. Thus, it is safe to assume that Kubo took inspiration from the Gashadokuro for Kenpachi’s character, and it certainly paid off.

Bleach is available to watch on Hulu.
