1923 Season 2 Episode 3 Spoiler Recap and Review — Who is the Man Stalking Alexandra?

1923 Season 2, Episode 3, titled “Whap Thee in Terror,” is a powerful commentary on how outsiders and immigrants are treated in modern society. This issue has remained unchanged for over a century. The episode focuses on Alexandra, Spencer’s wife, who arrives at America’s doorstep only to be poked and prodded at Ellis Island.

Taylor Sheridan, unlike any other mainstream television writer today, is a master at unflinchingly examining how women, Indigenous cultures, and other disadvantaged groups are treated in the so-called land of the free. 1923 Season 2, Episode 3, offers a poignant glimpse into the cost of life, love, and the American dream.

Paramount+’s 1923 Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: How Did Cara Survive the Rabid Wolf Attack?

With Jacob (Harrison Ford), Jack (Darren Mann), and Zane (Brian Geraghty) still trapped under a wagon for protection from the storm, Cara shoots a rabid wolf in her home and kills Dr. Miller’s nurse. Cara (Helen Mirren) proves to be a good shot, having previously killed a mountain lion just before it could make a meal of Jack’s wife.

Cara and Dr. Miller once again attempt to administer the rabies shot to Elizabeth (Landman’s Michelle Randolph). The sheltered young beauty insists they don’t know whether the wolf carried the deadly disease. They remind her that wolves do not attack people — unless they are rabid. Cara slaps her to knock some sense into her, warning that she will die without the medicine.

Jacob, Jack, and Zane’s family arrive, surviving the storm. Jacob asks about the doctor, but Cara informs him of what happened. Jack talks to his fiance, who tells him that despite her vows, Elizabeth will head back East to be with her family in the spring. Dr. Miller examines Zane. They must drill in his head to drain fluid because of the acute subdural hematoma with no anesthesia.

1923 Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: What Happens to Alexandra at Ellis Island?

Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) arrives at Ellis Island and is surprised to learn that she cannot simply wander off but must go through a series of checkpoints. These inspections focus on perceived moral character, eye disease, tuberculosis, and pregnancy — which Alexandra is, despite her efforts to hide it. A physician subjects her to a humiliating examination, but she has no choice but to swallow her pride.

Eventually, she is allowed to leave after proving her moral character and education. A kind man who flags down taxis for her advises her to keep her money in her shoes. At the train station, the ticket seller who sells her a ticket to Chicago warns her to change the hiding spot and to watch out for pickpockets and other nefarious characters.

Meanwhile, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Luca (Andy Dispensa) continue smuggling liquor in Texas. Dutton spots a roadblock. He refuses to go further, not wanting to, in my opinion, shoot fellow soldiers. Luca goes along without him. Spencer later hears gunshots. The soldiers shoot at Luca’s car as he tries to drive off, then come to a halt. We assume the immigrant has been killed.

Paramount+’s 1923 Season 2 Episode 3 Ending Explained: Who is the Man Stalking Alexandra?

1923 season 2 episode 3 ends with a man stalking Alexandra, but we don’t know who they are or their intentions. However, we can only assume this may be an evil person, considering he walks towards the woman’s bathroom, which Alexandra has just entered.

There is also a bit of foreshadowing as we hear Alexandra narrate a letter to her beloved Spencer, wondering what “calamity” she may encounter on her journey. Will this man go beyond just robbing her blind? For that matter, will Elizabeth leave for Boston once her medication runs out? Will Zane survive the procedure?

And perhaps most importantly, will Spencer make it home? Now that he is in Texas, I guess that he will cross paths with Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) and U.S. Marshal Mamie Fossett, who is hot on the trail of those responsible for killing several young Indigenous members of her community.
