A YOUNG man is fighting for his life in hospital after falling from the fourth storey of a student accommodation block.
The 21-year-old student was staying with friends in Eden Hall student accommodation on Western Road in Cork when the horrific accident happened in the early hours of this morning.
It’s understood the injured man is from Midleton and is a student in the Munster Technological University in the city.
However he lives at home and was staying with friends as he was due to leave for Dublin.
The incident, described as a freak accident, happened at around 4 am.
The lad’s friends notified the emergency services immediately.
Gardai, paramedics, and members of Cork City Fire Brigade arrived quickly at the scene, where medics provided treatment before moving the patient to nearby Cork University Hospital.
His condition is described as critical and he is receiving care in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
His injuries are extensive, including substantial head injuries.
His family are at his bedside and everyone is praying that he will make a recovery from his injuries.
Gardaí stress that no foul play was involved and they are treating the accident as a freak incident.
They are investigating how the accident could have happened and are speaking to the student’s shocked and traumatised friends.
