A MAJOR restaurant chain has closed down one of its Scottish branches after eight years in business.
Monterey Jack’s in Dunfermline, Fife, temporarily shut down at the end of 2024 due to staff shortages.

The chain is known for its gourmet American-style burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and cocktails.
There are eight other venues across the country including Braehead, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow Fort, Perth, Stirling, and M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park.
The Dunfermline branch was a staple in the town for several years, and there were concerns when the Canmore Street restaurant failed to reopen following the temporary closure.
However, the rising cost of goods, energy, and staffing issues have made it more difficult for the business to remain sustainable at its current location.
The branch has now been removed from the Monterey Jack’s website.
Richard Fergie, a spokesperson for the restaurant group, confirmed that the Dunfermline branch is under review.
He added: “The store was recently closed temporarily due to staffing issues, but it is now under review for its viability.”
Fergie added that no final decision has been made yet, saying: “Like many hospitality businesses in the UK, we have to assess all locations to determine if they are sustainable moving forward.”
The future of the Dunfermline branch remains uncertain.
But Fergie hinted at the possibility of relocating to a new site in the area that may be more suitable for the business’s long-term goals.
The leasehold for the premises has already been placed on the market.
In February 2023, Monterey Jack’s announced that their Glasgow Central branch was closing.
Staff said rising costs were the reason behind the decision to shut the eatery in the city’s Merchant Square.
A few months later, the chain closed their eatery in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, for good.
And in September 2022, Monterey Jack’s in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, also shut up shop.
