SWITCH AND SAVE: Brands such as Tampax and Always are trusted by millions but are often much more expensive than shops’ own brands.
You can buy a pack of 20 Asda applicator tampons for £96p, which is less than 5p each, while 20 cardboard applicator Tampax at the same store is twice the price.
Pads can be cheaper still — a 16-pack of Tesco Free Spirit Ultra Towels is 45p, which is 3p each.
Always compare cost per item before you buy.
PLAN AHEAD: You know this is something you’re going to need each month, so stock up when you see a good deal.
Dashing out to buy essentials at the last minute may cost you more, especially as smaller supermarkets may only stock the more expensive ranges.

DON’T THROW AWAY MONEY: There are now many reusable products for periods.
