With more than 70 routes across the British Isles, Europe and Scandinavia, Loganair is the largest regional airline in the UK.
The regional carrier first launched flights in the 1960s and already has nine bases in the UK, with travel hubs in Kirkwall, Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, City of Derry, Newcastle and Isle of Man.
The new base at Southampton Airport will increase the number of seats available through the airline by over 140,000 per year.
Flights will be served by two ATR-72 600 aircraft, with the first arriving in October 2025.
A new route from Southampton to Manchester will launch one day later on October 26.
The daily service will operate three times a day, with Sun Online Travel finding one-way fares from £59.99.
Fares include 6kg of hand luggage as well as 15kg of hold luggage.
It is hoped the new airport base will efficiently serve southern mainland and island communities.
Not only is the new Loganair base welcome news for passengers, it’s also good news for locals, with the airline generating jobs for pilots, cabin crew and engineers.
And thanks to a larger aircraft, passenger capacity between Southampton and Edinburgh will increase from 49 to 72.
Loganair is also launching a new route from Manchester to Exeter.
Loganair’s chief executive officer, Luke Farajallah, said: “We are delighted to be announcing a new base in Southampton, which is a logical and important strategic step for the UK’s largest regional airline.
“Loganair is very familiar with operations to and from the South Coast, and we feel confident the local market will respond well to our more permanent presence and new routes through the basing of two aircraft later this year.”
