Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has asked the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take their time with the criticism of the new government.
He says they will be in opposition for a very long time, so it is imperative they learn the ropes of how to stay in opposition very well.
Sammy Gyamfi was commenting on the debate on whether Ghana needs a Hajj Village or not.
“The NPP should understand that they have now come to the opposition. Four years will come right now, but it will not be easy. They should take their time because they will be in opposition for a very long time,” he said.
The NDC’s Director of Communications indicated that the Hajj Village is not a government of Ghana project but a project by the Airport company limited to generate revenue from pilgrims and also from other users of the facility.
“The Muslim pilgrims will use the Hajj village for just six weeks in a year, but the village being constructed has shops, offices, and a sports complex, which will generate revenue for the Airport company, so I don’t see why the complaints. John Dramani Mahama has not used state funds to build any church or a Hajj Village it is the Airport Company which is constructing their village,” he said.
On why the NDC kicked against the National Cathedral but buys into the idea of a Hajj Village, he indicated that the then President Akufo-Addo promised God and assured Ghanaians that state funds won’t be used for the construction. However, that was not the case. So the NDC’s challenge with the National Cathedral was because there was no truth on the side of the president with regards to the truth surrounding the building and the legality.
