“Netflix about to receive a barrage of hate from Mexicans”: ‘Drive to Survive’ Season 7 Will Make Sergio Pérez Miserable After Official Synopsis Releases

Drive to Survive is about to pillage Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez of his last morsel of reputation left within this industry. Given the tendency of the Netflix series to exaggerate and dramatize an event well beyond its factual accuracy, one can already tell that the Checo episode will be a total bloodbath.

After a contentious performance run throughout 2023 and 2024, Pérez parted ways with the Austrian team at the end of the 2024 season. Now, the position for Red Bull’s second seat remains up in the air.

Although Liam Lawson has been temporarily promoted from the junior RB team to fill in as Max Verstappen’s teammate, the 2025 season will prove to be quite an entertaining watch as the 22-year-old novice steps into his 35-year-old predecessor’s shoes.

In the fast-paced, cutthroat world of Formula 1, where dreams come true at 300 miles per hour and lives are altered in a fraction of a second, there is no place for underperformance. And Netflix’s Drive to Survive is about to make that fact very clear when it comes to former Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez.

With Season 7 lined up for release, it looks as though Drive to Survive is ready to tackle some explosive topics – starting with the Christian Horner allegations. Given FIA’s ongoing row with reigning champion Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo’s exit, and Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, 2024 was already a good year for the crew at Netflix.

But after the unforgivably redundant performance from Checo Pérez throughout 2023 and 2024, Drive to Survive – even with its flair for drama – will be remiss not to document the Mexican’s final season at Red Bull in all its glory.

Fans divided as Drive to Survive Season 7 targets Checo

Drive to Survive Season 7 Episode 8, titled Elbows Out, shines the spotlight on the Mexican driver during his final season at Red Bull. But as the official synopsis (read here) reveals, it will not be pretty for Sergio Pérez.

The 35-year-old has been underperforming since 2023, when he won only 2 races compared to Verstappen’s 19. Meanwhile, his lackluster 152 points compared to Verstappen’s 437 cost Red Bull the Constructors’ Championship in 2024, as they came in third behind McLaren and Ferrari (via Formula 1), falling short of the championship title by only 77 points.

This has led to mass anger and rejection from the team – a fact that Netflix looks ready to exploit in its new season. Meanwhile, fans can already expect what the episode will entail should Drive to Survive make Checo out to be a villain.

Not all publicity is bad publicity, but when Netflix starts to make Checo’s life feel like a telenovela, it is about to get very dirty on the other side of Trump’s infamous wall. However, even with mixed reactions flooding in from all sides of the F1 community, fans gear up for another adrenaline-pumping season of Grands Prix.

Drive to Survive Season 7 premieres on Netflix on 7 March 2025.
