‘I was reluctant’ – PGA Tour star Shane Lowry reveals major fear prior to release of Netflix Full Swing series

SHANE Lowry has admitted that he was reluctant to participate in Netflix Full Swing docu-series.

The 2019 Open champion was a major figure during season three as he featured prominently during episode two of the hit show on the giant streaming platform.

But the PGA Tour star admits he was unsure of committing to appearing on the new series due to fear of further time away from his family.

The tour’s schedule is hugely demanding players with them being away from family for weeks, if not months on end.

World number 18 Lowry and Rory McIlroy take up most of the second episode as it highlighted their win at last year’s Zurich Championship.

But the Offaly star admits he really enjoyed being followed around by Netflix staff and production team before he echoed Justin Thomas recent statements.

Two-time major winner Thomas recently urged more player to give media more access in order to promote the game.

He said: “We’re incredibly lucky to have many passionate people tuning in to watch us every week, but let’s be honest—this game can feel a little distant at times.

“The more I think about it, the more I feel us giving more access and insight can make a world of difference.”

And Lowry agrees as he admits that he’s changed his perspective on media access.

In a social media post, Lowry stated: “I was reluctant to commit to Netflix’s Full Swing series at first.

“It was an extra time commitment away from tournaments that I could be spending with family or practicing.

“But I’ve always enjoyed doing content, whether that be documentaries, fun challenges, or comedy with the DP World Tour.”

The Clara native went on to praise production staff and producer Chad Mumm for showing the players in a positive light – from detailing their life stories and struggles on and off the course.

He added: “Episode 2 of the new Netflix Full Swing series follows Rory and me at last year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

“The show, in its third season, does a great job of showing us players as people and personalities, something which the professional game needs more of.”

Netflix Full Swing season 3 is available to stream now.
