Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has condemned the offensive remarks directed at Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle-Klottey, during parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025.
During the session, a male voice was heard shouting, “Daughter of a murderer, sit down! Daughter of a murderer, sit down!”
The remark was made while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House, calling for calm.
The outburst occurred amid heated exchanges over the 60th anniversary of Joseph Boakye Danquah’s death.
Tensions escalated when Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, challenged what he described as exaggerated praises from the Minority regarding JB Danquah’s legacy.
The situation led presiding Speaker Andrew Asiamah to restrict contributions to only parliamentary leadership.
Addressing the issue during proceedings on March 3, 2025, Speaker Bagbin condemned the remark as “dishonourable and unbefitting of a sitting MP.”
He issued a one-week ultimatum for the culprit to come forward or face consequences.
“It is regrettable that an Hon. Member was subjected to an unwarranted, unjustified, and deeply offensive reckless remark… I strongly condemn such conduct,” Bagbin stated.
He also extended an apology to Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, their family, and the chiefs and people of Anlo.
