From the People’s Champion to The Final Boss, The Rock Is the Exact Villain That WWE Needs

The most electrifying man in the history of WWE, The Rock has always been a force to reckon with. His phenomenal stint with the Stamford-based company has seen him fight off major rivalries and create storylines that would remain etched in history. Whether it was with Stone Cold/Steve Austin or Vince McMahon, the People’s Champ was always the history maker.

However, The Rock’s rise to the peak wasn’t built over a fortnight. He blended multiple elements to become the superstar that has always been the fans’ favourite. Despite switching between a heel and a babyface, his in-ring flair laced with his wrestling promos has made the fans go berserk for him.

Despite not being a regular figure in the WWE industry anymore due to his Hollywood schedule, he still makes guest appearances, and no matter the character arc that he plays, the fans have always loved him. Dwayne Johnson hasn’t just been a heartthrob of fans for his in-ring skills, but he is equally popular in Hollywood.

What makes The Rock one of the most interesting characters on screen?

One might argue that The Rock has often crossed the line when he joined the Nation of Domination. During his run as the Rocky Maivia phase, the fans didn’t really consume the promos that he cut. However, his first heel turn that saw him joining the Nation of Domination quickly saw a massive shift in the mindset of the fans.

Following his heel turn, he was soon en route in crafting a legendary rivalry with Stone Cold, that marked a significant phase of his career and also for the WWE. The iconics of this rivalry made him stand out, following which he joined Vince McMahon as the Corporate Champion in 1998.

Switching between character arcs, The Rock continued to deliver brilliant promos while dropping some spectacular pipe bombs. The arrival of Hollywood Rock made him that proud villain that the world would simply hate on the screens. However, despite the storylines, The Rock tended to bring out the best in all of them, which kept the fans hooked to the screens.

With all the success mounting in WWE, he soon found himself in the midst of Hollywood, and the roles kept on getting bigger. To be a part of Hollywood, he started switching between WWE and the movies, leading him to shorter roles and eventually becoming the People’s Champion.

It was the versatility of The Rock that made the fans love whatever he did. He never wanted to just play a babyface or a heel. He mixed it all up and somehow always played the perfect role.

In his latest stint, The Rock became The Final Boss, where he has been fighting against Cody Rhodes. Last year, ahead of WrestleMania, he joined forces with Roman Reigns, citing family. Since then, the duo pulled off many tricks, only to be vanquished by Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

The Rock hardened his stance as one of the biggest heels of late by turning John Cena into a villain, which has been more of a dream for the fans in the last 23 years. Even in the last episode before Elimination Chamber, The Rock did everything he could to emotionally manipulate Cody Rhodes into selling his soul to him, thereby dropping another round of his villainous aura.

There were speculations about how Cena fit into all of it, and The Rock somehow pulled it off slickly. The Rock didn’t just allow Cena to be out there on his own but also smashed Cody’s face when the entire segment happened. The question obviously would be how WWE turns it from here, but Dwayne Johnson continues to wow the audience with his captivating twists and turns.
