Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has broken her silence on a painful chapter of her life, revealing that she endured a decade-long abusive relationship that nearly shattered her.
In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she shared her harrowing experience, admitting that fear, shame, and societal expectations kept her trapped for years.
“I became an alcoholic. But I couldn’t leave because of the shame that people would say I couldn’t keep a man,” she confessed, highlighting the silent suffering many women endure in toxic relationships.
Adesanya painted a grim picture of the cycle of abuse, where physical violence was followed by desperate pleas for forgiveness.
“The guy beats you right now, and the next minute he’s begging you. So it was something I was involved in for 10 good years.”
In addition to the physical and emotional abuse, she revealed how her career suffered. “Thank God there was no blogger then. It was so bad. The man would always tell those who called me for jobs that I wasn’t available.”
For years, she remained in the shadows, controlled by fear and manipulation. But one night, something changed.
“The night I was going to leave, it was like magic. It was like 12am in the middle of the night. This is the first time I’ll be talking about it. But I have to talk about it.”
