The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series.
A total of 38,316 candidates sat for the exams, comprising 17,596 males and 21,131 females, while 1,354 registered candidates were absent.
However, WAEC flagged multiple cases of examination malpractice during the marking process.
As a result, the subject results of 303 candidates and the entire results of 108 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations.
Performance in the core subjects showed mixed outcomes. English Language recorded 54.79% of candidates securing grades A1-C6, while 13.45% had F9.
Mathematics saw 37.44% obtaining A1-C6, nearly matching the 37.42% who failed. Integrated Science had 53.31% of candidates excelling with A1-C6, whereas 18.46% failed. Social Studies had the highest success rate, with 87.88% securing A1-C6 and only 5.76% recording F9.
WAEC has also cautioned candidates against fraudsters who claim they can upgrade results for a fee.
The council emphasized that its database is highly secure, and all results can be verified. Candidates are advised to check their results online at www.waecgh.org.
