‘Proper fluked it’ say fans as darts star Scott Williams pulls off rarely-seen feat to win leg after major blunder

SCOTT WILLIAMS hit a ridiculous three-double checkout at the UK Open – but fans aren’t convinced he meant it.

The 35-year-old took on Wessel Nijman in the first stage of the tournament on Friday afternoon.

Shaggy attempted to hit two D16s – but in the end needed three doubles for the leg[/caption]

Williams led 4-3 in the best-of-11 leg contest at the Butlins Minehead Resort.

Needing 64 for a 5-3 lead, Shaggy ignored the usual path of treble 16, double 8.

Williams appeared instead to go for two double 16s, finding the first.

But his next dart flew too high and pierced into the double 8.

Requiring 16, Williams composed himself to hit a third-straight double into the 8 – and take the leg.

A beaming Williams saluted the crowd after the unusual checkout, before going on to win the match 6-4.

One fan gasped on X: “Hello @ITVX I’ve just witnessed something that should have been shown after the Watershed, involving Scott Williams hitting 3 doubles to take out 64.”

Another claimed: “Proper fluked it.”

While a third added: “Dirty darts.”

Williams progressed through to face William O’Connor in the second phase.

But he ran into the Irishman in fantastic form, with O’Connor taking a thriller 10-7.

Williams reached the World Championship semi-final in 2024, just a year after getting his PDC Tour Card.

Known as an entertainer at the oche, Shaggy drew criticism for throwing a “blind 180” during his first-round match with Niko Springer at Ally Pally.

Speaking after the game, which he won 3-1, Williams said he enjoys being a big showman.

And while he has sometimes felt he picked the wrong time to do so, he “won’t stop being a bit of t**”.

Williams said: “I’ve had to learn over the last couple of years with stage stuff to do it at the right time.

“I played Joe Cullen a couple of years ago in the last-16 of the Players Championship finals and I hit a 180 in the first couple legs and I’ve give it some of the biggun.

“And I’m like, ‘I don’t need to exert that kind of energy right now because it’s 1-1, so why?’ It’s an even game we’re both doing what we’re doing.

“I’m trying to be better at that kind of stuff. But I’m not going to stop being a bit of a t**.

“I’m there to give the crowd what they’ve paid for.”
