Tracker viewers fell in love with Colter Shaw’s handlers, Teddi Bruin and Velma Bruin, and were devastated to find that the actress who played Teddi, Robin Weigert, was leaving the show in season 2.
What Happened to Teddi on ‘Tracker’?
In August 2024, TVLine reported that Robin would be exiting the show as a series regular in season 2. However, Abby McEnany, who plays Velma, remained as part of the main cast.
In the season 2 premiere of Tracker, Velma explains why Teddi is missing from the episode, saying she is out of town to help out her mom.
“She’s gonna be there a while,” she told Colter during a phone call. “She’s helping her mom get sorted.”
Colter wondered why Velma was not traveling back and forth to be with Teddi and do her job and Velma said that she felt like she was “getting in the way.”
“I was getting in the way, you might say, and it really wasn’t good, so I came back. Don’t you worry, because I am staying busy,” she remarked.
‘Tracker’ Showrunner Speaks Out Amid Teddi’s Absence
Tracker showrunner Elwood Reid shared that Teddi’s absence from season 2 would mean that the characters would have to get used to a new normal.
“[Velma] and Teddy have separated,” he told Entertainment Weekly in September 2024. “Velma is struggling with what it means to be abandoned in some ways, and she’ll work her way through that emotion.”
He also explained why Velma would be changing settings, going to work at Reenie Greene’s office instead of the home she shared with Teddi.
“Both of these women, as they go through some stuff in their lives, are going to be able to lean on each other and get on each other’s nerves,” he explained.
It was not immediately made clear about whether or not Robin would be back to reprise her role on Tracker in the future.
Once Teddi’s absence became known on Tracker, fans questioned why her character was no longer part of season 2.
“They wrote out one of the supporting characters,” one person pointed out on X, while another said, “Teddi isn’t in s2.”
When one person asked, “Why is she not in season 2?” another responded, “I haven’t been able to find a reason, unfortunately. Only thing I can find is a TVLine article saying the reason wasn’t disclosed.”
While it is uncertain if Teddi will ever be back on the show, Justin Hartley did tease that two other characters would be back – his onscreen siblings, played by Jensen Ackles and Melissa Roxburgh.
“We’re writing for them,” the show’s star and executive producer told TV Insider in February 2025.
He also hinted at some other guest stars popping in throughout the episodes.
“It’s so funny when you’re in this business for as long as I’ve been in it, and I didn’t realize it until Tracker, really? I’m like, s–t, I’ve been around,” Justin told the outlet of working with past costars again. “You develop all these relationships and you can call on friends who otherwise wouldn’t do these things. And you get all these really wonderful people that come on. You’ll see some really familiar faces, some really big TV name, familiar faces come on and just do stellar work on our show. It elevates the show. I just think it’s wonderful that we’re able to do that.”
Season 3 of the show is officially in the works.
