Electronic Arts’ Battlefield series has produced more than 10 main games for their franchise since their first release back in 2009. This FPS shooter developed by DICE has captivated fans of the genre with its large-scale battle arena where players are literally at war with one another.
Although the series gave us some pretty good BF games like Battlefield 4, their last installment to the franchise, Battlefield 2042, was a diabolical failure, to say the least. After this setback, DICE is now going back to their original roots to give a consistent experience to their players with their upcoming game Battlefield 6.
EA will return to their roots for their upcoming Battlefield game
The Battlefield franchise has forever been under the shadows of Activision’s Call of Duty, and the latest BF game made it even worse with how DICE tried to take direct inspiration from Call of Duty in Battlefield 2042. Instead of sticking to an identity of their own, BF tried to imitate Activision’s success, which led to their latest installment being a massive failure.
After EA’s disappointing release in 2021, they have finally listened to their fans’ criticisms and decided to take the “players-first” approach to make their next game. Battlefield 6 is set to be the most ambitious title in the series, and EA has invested a significant amount of effort and resources into it.
This new game will focus more on the players and what they need to make the multiplayer element of the game better. In a 2023 interview between Axios and the co-founder and head of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, he revealed that the production team will focus more on teamplays and those super-rare clips in the game that just blow people’s minds.
Specialness around the squad play. Those only-in-Battlefield moments where you can kind of see something come together where it just blows your mind. I can’t really say too much, just because we’re not really talking about it yet, but there’s a lot that we can do there.
According to one Insider Gaming report, Battlefield 6 is aiming to feature 45 different kinds of weapons, which is double of what BF 2042 had offered, and 10 different multiplayer maps. These will be added during the launch of the game, with more to come afterward.
Will EA succeed in regaining their fans?
Although the failure of Battlefield 2042 had sort of alienated the entire fanbase of the series, people are rather eager to see what the new BF game has to offer. EA’s journey has been kind of rocky for a few years now, but overall, it is looking pretty good for BF 6, and with playtests that just began in January, fans are enjoying the new title more than ever.
Battlefield’s future is looking kind of bright with the series returning to its base of 64-player battles, destructive environments, modern military shooter, and four different classes.
