Terminator 2D: No Fate is Drenched in ’90s Nostalgia But Feels More Like a Time Machine Than a Game-Changer

One of the most popular movies in the Terminator franchise, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is getting another video game adaptation called Terminator 2D: No Fate. Developed by Bitmap Bureau, the game specifically targets those who wish to relive their childhood as the game is an old-fashioned, arcade-style, side-scrolling action video game.

The game’s announcement trailer was dropped recently, and many have labeled it as a “game changer,” but that’s farfetched. Yes, Terminator 2D: No Fate might be able to revitalize this genre, but it is nothing more than a retro game that is made for fan service. The purpose of this game is to provide the same experience that Terminator games provided in the 90s. It’s almost impossible for many to load up their Nintendo Entertainment System to play those retro games, so this game will solve that problem.

A new Terminator game has been announced to cater to those who miss the 90s

Bitmap Bureau, an independent video game studio that specialises in producing high-quality 16-bit games for modern consoles, has announced its upcoming game, Terminator 2D: No Fate. The trailer for the game was dropped recently, and it’s safe to say that it has created a lot of hype among the fans.

Mike Tucker, the design director and programmer at Bitmap Bureau, revealed in a blog post on PlayStation.Blog that the game is “a love letter to ‘80s/‘90s arcade games.” The game is a classic side-scrolling action game in which players will be able to control Sarah Connor, John Connor, and the T-800.

The game, which is different from what the fans were expecting, will retell some iconic moments from James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day in detailed pixelated graphics that will take players back to the 90s. The game will feature iconic moments like the Corral bar brawl and the motorcycle escape from the T-1000 in a 2D arcade style.

Terminator 2D: No Fate is not really a game-changer

Terminator 2D: No Fate does a great job of providing the same Terminator games experience that players played on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in the day, but that doesn’t mean it’s a game-changer. Video game publishers are constantly pushing the boundaries to make their games flawless, yet those games are labeled as average. So, in its genre, it might be exceptional, but it is more of a time machine than a game-changer.

It has been confirmed that the game will feature multiple endings & game modes. Terminator 2D: No Fate will be released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (via Steam and Epic) on September 5th.

It’s certainly exciting to see that in this day and age, some developers are still determined to keep the classic video game experience alive, but as for sales, it is hard to say if Terminator 2D: No Fate will be able to break some records.
