Lawyers for Gifty Oware Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), have refuted claims that she has absconded from Ghana following ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities within the National Service Scheme (NSS).
In a statement issued on Friday, 28 February 2025, and copied to Mynewsgh.com, her legal representatives, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners, clarified that their client remains a resident of Ghana and has no intention of relocating abroad.
“Our client wishes to put on record that she has not absconded from the Republic of Ghana contrary to the said reports. Indeed, she has no intention of relocating from Ghana. She was born and bred in Ghana and has no intention of taking up domicile in a foreign country,” the statement read.
The lawyers explained that Oware Mensah exercised her constitutional right to travel outside the country for a break after the 2024 general elections.
They also noted that during her time away, she joined the Black Queens in Morocco in February 2025 in her capacity as an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The statement further clarified that she has not been invited by any security or investigative agency regarding the NSS payroll fraud scandal. However, her legal team emphasised her willingness to cooperate fully with any state security agency if required.
“Our client is ready, able, and willing to fully cooperate with any state security/investigative agency, including your organisation, should her cooperation be required,” her lawyers assured.
The NSS payroll scandal, uncovered by The Fourth Estate, revealed the existence of thousands of ghost names linked to fraudulent student index numbers from various universities, leading to an alleged financial loss of GH¢2.2 billion.
While investigations continue, Oware Mensah’s legal team has urged the public to disregard unverified social media claims regarding her whereabouts.
