A MAP has revealed the best fish and chip shops in the UK – and one serves up supper for just £1.80.
The best of Britain was crowned today by The National Fish and Chip Awards in their 37th year of celebrating the nation’s favourite dish.

Expert tasters have carefully scrutinised dishes from around the country marking each meal on a range of factors including food quality, customer service, and sustainability.
Outlets are given multiple chances to snap up a title, with 15 categories overall.
Of these are Restaurant of the Year, Takeaway of the Year, and the Field to Frier award.
Fish and Chip shop owners waited with bated breath as the winners were revealed.
RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR
Taking the 2025 Restaurant of the Year title is Yarm Road Fish and Chips in Darlington.
The little food joint offers supper for under a tenner and the owner, Burrell, has had over 20 years of experience in the business.
With a homemade fish cake recipe and a secret ingredient in the crispy batter, the venue is clearly making a mark.
One happy customer left an review online stating: “Immaculate premises, a real treat every time.
“Staff are friendly, very efficient & food is scrummy every time.”
In second place is The Fish Works, Largs, Scotland, where fresh fish is delivered daily from a nearby market.
The restaurant is run by power couple Ross and Tiffany Irvin who are local to Largs and are thrilled to have grabbed the second spot.
A quick scour of their website will lead you to a plethora of awards and pictures of gorgeous fried delights.
The classic fish and chips isn’t all they do though with a menu that boasts langoustine tails, calamari and seasonal fish.
In third place is Kellaway’s Fish and Chips, Truro, Cornwall, which offers fish while you enjoy that salty sea air.
Located on the Cornish coastline the venue is run by Larry and Amanda Kellaway who have been working away in the shop for almost three decades.
This top British chippy even offers battered sausages for £1.80 a pop.

TAKEAWAY OF THE YEAR
At the top of the podium is Bells Fish and Chips, Durham, which has catapulted to success despite being relatively new.
Managing director Graham Kennedy said: “We are delighted to be recognised as Restaurant of the Year at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2025, and I am bursting with pride after 38 years of hard work in our amazing industry.”
Offering a mix of take-away and dine-in options, the Framwellgate Moor venue has racked up countless positive reviews and 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor.
Next up is Malt and Anchor, Gloucestershire, in second place, which offers a swanky interior to enjoy your fish and chip dish.
As well as the traditional pub grub the restaurant serves savoury pies and even wine, bubbly, and beer.
One thrilled reviewer said: “You know when you stumble across a rare find that is truly amazing.
“This is what we found in the Cotswolds on our recent visit.”
Taking the bronze medal is Trenchers Spanish City, Whitley Bay, which has been keeping locals happy for the past 40 years.
The swanky venue even offers an in-person pianist to listen to while you’re munching on your award-winning chips.
FIELD TO FRYER
This award refers to the entire journey of each food item from the field to the fryer, and looks to award the quality and care at every step of the supply chain.
The winner of this title is Redcloak Fish Bar – Stonehaven, Scotland.
Located in a beautiful and breezy seaside town, the family-run chippy uses “high quality ingredients from sustainable sources” according to the website.
Diners can’t help but agree with the rankings and have shared their compliments online.
One happy customer wrote: “Fish and Chips were exceptional and crispy.
“Highly recommend to anyone in Stonehaven or Aberdeen.”
