BRISTOL ROVERS’ home form is a level above what they tend to achieve on the road and the Gas can stretch their Memorial Stadium record to 8-4-4 against Rotherham.
Steve Evans’ Millers have struggled to put any kind of winning run together in League One despite 38 points on the board and their current sequence without a victory is now six matches since a home win over Cambridge in January.
Inigo Calderon’s Rovers are unbeaten in their last four at home with wins over Barnsley, Peterborough and Burton with Rotherham’s current form hardly suggesting that Rovers’ good run is going to end this afternoon.
Evans is featuring in this week’s One On One interview with SunSport’s Derek McGregor but he’ll be glad to get Rotherham back home against Leyton Orient on Tuesday and Rovers can win this at a big value 21/10.
League One leaders BIRMINGHAM face second top Wycombe in one of the live 12.30 kick-offs and the home form of Chris Davies’ Blues would point to a winning start to the day at 8/11 for early-bird punters.
Third top WREXHAM can make it a better than 5/2 lunchtime double with a home win over Bolton at 11/10 while League Two leaders WALLSALL look to be back in good enough form to take care of Swindon at 8/11.
The runaway Saddlers seemed to have taken their eyes off the ball for a couple of weeks but they’re now unbeaten in their last four games and put four past Swindon in the reverse fixture back in August.
I’m struggling to find any value in today’s FA Cup fifth round ties but I like the look of 21/20 NEWCASTLE to beat Brighton tomorrow and I’m going to double up at better than 9/4 with NOTTINGHAM FOREST to beat Ipswich at 4/6 on Monday night.
Inserting perennial wobblers Manchester United to beat Fulham for a treble is one for braver backers than me but I can’t see why Newcastle wouldn’t want to be in two Wembley Cup finals this season and home advantage has to be massive for the Toon at 21/20.
Arsenal were savaged for only managing one shot on target at Forest on Wednesday night but the Tricky Trees should take their fair share of praise for that goalless draw at the City Ground and if a club sitting third can’t afford to take a home FA Cup tie against relegation fodder seriously, the game really has gone.
AYR can bounce back from last weekend’s added-time defeat at home to now second-top Livingston with a win over improving Airdrie at 4/9 and RAITH ROVERS can get back to winning form at home to Scottish Cup giant-killers Queens Park at 4/5
Rovers lost 1-0 to a resurgent Diamonds in Lanarkshire on Tuesday but the Championship’s bottom club could find things way too tough at Somerset, despite stretching their unbeaten run to five games against Barry Robson’s play-off chasing Rovers.
EDINBURGH CITY landed last Saturday’s Single with a 2-1 win at Elgin but Michael McIndoe’s players have to back that up with a home win over Stranraer and they look to be worth siding with again at 21/20.
James Stokes’ winner helped to Citizens move into third place last weekend and they can edge a 7th placed Stranraer side which made it back-to-back wins with a 3-0 home success over Stirling.
PETERHEAD can consign Elgin to a fourth straight defeat by winning at 19/20 and League One leaders ARBROATH can keep their noses nicely ahead of Cove Rangers with a third win of the season over third bottom Annan at a solid 4/6.
I’ve dealt with four Premiership games elsewhere on these pages and I’ll take DUNDEE to get back to winning form when it matters at home to St Johnstone at 6/5 and a share of the points in Dingwall between County and Killie at a general 21/10.
Saturday SINGLE
EDINBURGH CITY landed the bet last week at 13/5 and I’m siding with 23/10 PORTSMOUTH at toiling Luton with the visitors likely to be odds-on if this match was played at Fratton Park.
WEEKEND ACCA
Bristol Rovers 21/10
Wallsall 8/11
Ayr 4/9
Arbroath 4/6
Edinburgh 21/20
Five homes across five divisions this week with the acca paying out at just over 25/1.
ST MIRREN VS CELTIC Saturday 5.30pm (Sky Sports)
Saints made it back-to-back wins over Rangers with Mikael Mandron and Toyosi Olusanya scoring in a 2-0 win at Ibrox last week and a tough looking three matches against Hibs, Gers and Hearts earned them an excellent four points.
Celtic maintained their 13 points advantage with a win over Aberdeen on Tuesday but St Mirren have to bounce back after their eventual 10-men lost at Hearts and they’re 10/1 for the win here despite home advantage.
3/10 Celtic have conceded at least once in each of their last three matches and Saints look well capable of scoring to make a Celtic win and BTTS the bet here at a general 2/1.
RANGERS VS MOTHERWELL Saturday 3pm
Two-up and win punters collected on Kilmarnock against Rangers on Wednesday but it was Barry Ferguson‘s new charges who went back up the M77 with three points banked and pride restored after a torrid few weeks.
The Steelmen head to Ibrox after Michael Wimmer bagged a first win against Dundee midweek but they’re 16/1 for the new boss to double up and Gers have shortened in to a best-priced 2/13.
Dan Casey is 28/1 with Bet 365 anytime scorer after a brace against Dundee but I’ll chance a rejuvenated Rangers on the handicap at -2 here at odds of 21/20.
HIBERNIAN V HEARTS Sunday 12.30pm (Sky Sports)
Both sides approach this third capital derby league meeting of the season in rampant form and now fourth placed Hibs have stretched their unbeaten run to 14 matches after their controversial win at Tannadice on Wednesday.
Hearts swept St Mirren aside at Tynecastle the same night and the Jambos are flying high in sixth place after suffering just the one defeat in their last 11 matches.
Neil Critchley’s visitors have been backed into 19/10 against the 13/10 hosts but Hibs outplayed my draw tip to win against Celtic last week and I’ll back them to win this at fair odds against.
ABERDEEN VS DUNDEE UNITED Sunday 3pm (Premier Sports)
I tipped the Dons AND United to win last Saturday at 23/20 and 4/6 and both sides are in form for this Pittodrie showdown despite losing midweek to Celtic and Hibs.
Jim Goodwin‘s players should be rightly aggrieved by Sam Dalby’s header being ruled out for “handball” against Hibs but the Dons should have taken plenty from their first half showing at Celtic even though Shayden Morris’ goal was only a consolation.
Both games this season have gone 1-0 to the home side and while the 23/10 draw will be understandably popular, I’ll just side with Aberdeen here at 23/20.
