Gregory Afoko has been spotted for the first time following his release from the Nsawam Medium Prison after nearly a decade in detention.
In the newly surfaced photos, Afoko is seen wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt paired with blue jeans and a nose mask.
His release comes after he met all bail conditions set by the court.
Afoko was granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.
His release follows years of legal proceedings over his alleged involvement in the 2015 murder of the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama.
Background
Afoko was arrested in 2015 in connection with the murder of Adams Mahama, the then Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He was accused of conspiring with Asabke Alangdi to douse Mahama with a substance suspected to be acid, leading to his death.
The High Court granted Afoko bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified. His release follows years of legal proceedings and multiple failed bail attempts.
His co-accused, Asabke Alangdi, was sentenced to death in 2023 after being found guilty of the crime. Afoko, however, remained in custody as the case dragged on.
His release marks a significant turn in a case that has gripped national attention for nearly a decade.
