WWE 2K25: How Does WWE Decide the Ratings, Does Cody Rhodes Deserve Same Rating as Roman Reigns?

WWE 2K25 is set to release on March 14, 2025, and as is tradition, the superstar ratings are causing some debate. While it is usually the fans that you’ll see fighting for their favorite wrestlers in online comment sections, The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns himself has joined the debate this year.

It was recently revealed to Reigns that he was the highest-rated currently active superstar alongside Cody Rhodes, who had the same rating. There’s no doubt that Rhodes has had a phenomenal year, but does he truly deserve to be on the same level as The Tribal Chief? So how does WWE decide these ratings, and do they always reflect reality?

According to WWE 2K24 developers, the ratings are determined by a wrestler’s accomplishments over the past year. Factors such as championship wins, match performances, and overall dominance are all taken into account. Producer Bryan Williams previously explained in an interview with Square Circle Pit that is done to have a sort of hierarchy instead of having everyone rated at the top.

In WWE 2K24, we saw Reigns hold the highest rating at 97 due to his dominant title reign. But with Cody Rhodes now holding the Undisputed WWE Championship, his rating has jumped up from 93 to match Reigns. In WWE 2K25, both wrestlers are rated at 96. The game is shaping up to be a big one.

Roman Reigns’ reaction to his 96 rating was a mix of disbelief and humor. Upon learning that he was rated 96 and tied with Cody Rhodes, Reigns demanded to know who was rated higher than him. Learning that some of the stars in the game’s Legends roster had a higher rating, Reigns sarcastically dismissed the number as “trash,” only to later accept it due to its connection with his college football number.

Cody Rhodes’ rise to a 96 rating is largely due to his recent success in WWE. After winning the 2024 Royal Rumble, he went on to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship. But we can make an argument that his short reign at the top doesn’t compare to Reigns’ historic title run of over 1,300 days. Regardless, it’s what the devs decided so.

From a storyline perspective, Cody Rhodes being rated 96 makes sense. He is currently the Undisputed WWE Champion and one of the most popular superstars in the company. But Reigns carried the WWE on his back for years. Some of us probably saw him first ten years ago as kids and he’s still here. He does deserve a lot of praise and respect. But this is after all, still a video game.

Beyond the ratings debate, WWE 2K25 is going to feature the largest roster in the franchise’s history, with over 300 wrestlers available. Developer Bryan Williams has also teased post-launch content in other interviews including the upcoming DLC, stating that fans will be shocked by some of the additions.

The question of whether Cody Rhodes deserves to share the highest rating with Roman Reigns ultimately depends on perspective. If ratings are purely based on recent accomplishments, Rhodes’ 96 rating is very fair. But if overall dominance and long-term impact are factored in, Reigns arguably deserves to be rated higher.
