John Higgins completed a stunning turnaround to beat Zhou Yuelong 5-4 and secure his spot in the quarter-finals.
But defending champion Judd Trump was knocked out after a tricky last-32 clash against Joe O’Connor.
The World No1 had eyed up a stunning three-peat in the World Open, having won the last two editions of the tournament in 2019 and 2024.
And Trump was joined by world champion Kyren Wilson, who crashed out at the same stage to Zhou Yuelong.
