He said during an appearance on The One Show,

It’s not courageous, it’s just what other bereaved people did for me and my wife — If I can write a book that can reach someone in a suburb of Yorkshire who can’t get to a London bereaved parents meeting, then I’ve gotta do it.

Talking about the loss, he also shared that losing their child has left them with a “new thing that my family feels that we did not have before and it’s hard and it hurts.” Six months after the tragedy, he and his wife, Leah Delaney, welcomed their fourth child.
