The exuberance is eetting too much – Tampuli tells Sam George

A heated exchange erupted in Parliament on Tuesday as former Deputy Minister for Transport, Hassan Tampuli, took a swipe at Sam George over his handling of radio station shutdowns.

Tampuli accused the Minister of Communications of excessive control, warning that his approach mirrors authoritarian tendencies.

“What the Minister is doing is to probably later on request that every promotion that will take place at NCA must be brought to the Minister for him to authorize before.

“Even staff salaries would have to be sent to the minister for him to pay,” Tampuli said, expressing concern over the level of control being exerted.

In a sharp rebuke, he compared the Minister’s actions to that of Uganda’s former dictator, Idi Amin, warning Parliament not to allow such a precedent.

“Mr Speaker, it looks like we have an Idi Amin in the making. This house will not watch for an Idi Amin to emerge at the Ministry of Communication.

“We are sending a signal to the Minister of Communications to relax; the exuberance is getting too much,” he stated.

Tampuli’s comments come in response to the controversial shutdown of seven radio stations, a move that has sparked widespread debate about media freedom and government overreach.
