Suneel Darshan Reflects on Memorable Moment with Akshay Kumar: A Promise of 100 Films

Suneel Darshan, the prolific writer, producer, and director, recently shared a fascinating anecdote from his long-standing collaboration with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. According to Suneel Darshan, after the success of Jaanwar, rumors began circulating that he was considering a new film with a different actor. At the time, a new hero, who had just delivered a big hit, was making waves in the industry. Hearing about this, Akshay Kumar—who was already a trusted collaborator—visited Suneel Darshan’s office.

 

Suneel recalled, “Akshay Kumar heard from someplace, probably a rumor, that I am starting a new film with some other hero. So, Akshay came to my office and said he wanted to talk to me, and I said, sure, tell me.” Akshay, who had become such a regular presence in Suneel’s office, was familiar with the space and used to come by often, which made the situation even more personal.

 

Akshay, determined to clear the air, insisted that Suneel come with him in his car for a private conversation. “He took me to the end of the street and then he said, ‘I heard from someone that you’re making a film with someone else,’” Suneel shared. “I was surprised and asked, ‘Who told you that?’ He replied, ‘There’s news in the market.’” To this, Suneel clarified that the new actor Akshay had heard about was the son of a prominent figure who had reached out to Suneel to check out some rushes.

 

But Akshay wasn’t satisfied with just clearing the misunderstanding. In an emotional and significant moment, he took Suneel’s hand and made a promise: “Please do that again. Sunil Ji, I am making a promise with you for 100 films.”

 

Suneel Darshan couldn’t help but feel moved by the gesture. “I thought to myself, he has turned into a complete actor. No one promises 100 films,” he said. “To be honest, at that point in time, I was his best bet.”
