“Pretty good money to do nothing”: Ric Flair’s Biggest Wrestling Regret Didn’t Harm Him Financially but Wishes He Never Did That

The world of professional wrestling has seen some of the biggest names who have changed the landscape and trajectory of the business. These larger-than-life personalities captivated audiences for years and became marquee draws for top promotions. One such name is The Nature Boy ‘Ric Flair.’

Ric Flair is regarded as one of the greatest wrestling stars of all time. The 16-time World Champion has been a part of all top promotions such as NWA, WCW, and finally in WWE, where he had a remarkable retirement match against a fellow WWE legend, Shawn Michaels.

The duo clashed against each other in a memorable showdown at WrestleMania 24. The match saw an emotional end when Michaels unwillingly super-kicked Flair and pinned him to end the career of one of the greatest careers in WWE history. However, following that, Ric Flair did something that indeed brought a lot of money, but in turn, became one of his biggest regrets in wrestling.

What was the biggest regret that Ric Flair revealed?

In an episode of “The Ric Flair Show” on the MLW Radio Network, Shawn Michaels was his guest. During that conversation, the duo discussed their epic encounter at WrestleMania. This led to Flair making a huge revelation.

Ric Flair had a remarkable end to his wrestling career at WrestleMania against Shawn Michaels and a big farewell night on the following Monday Night RAW, which debuted on Netflix in 2025 with stars and celebrities in attendance. The Nature Boy revealed that his number one regret was going to TNA in 2010 and wrestling several matches for the company for two more years after having a perfect send-off.

Yes, I do [regret wrestling again after WrestleMania 24]. There [are] a couple of things I regret. Number one was ever going to work for TNA. That’s my own fault.

Flair stated that he was tempted by the money offered to wrestle 65 days a year. While he highly regarded his tenure in TNA and respected every peer he worked with, Ric always compared it with his WWE tenure, making it very difficult for him to work there.

It was just a lot of money to wrestle 65 days a year, right? 65 days and make a lot of money. Do you know what I mean? Not WWE money, but pretty good money to do nothing. And I made a lot of friends. I like Kurt Angle very much and I like [James] Storm and [Bobby] Roode. I liked AJ [Styles]. Everybody treated me great. I mean, I don’t have any bad things to say about TNA or the people there at all. After being in the WWE, it’s pretty hard to work any place else because you’re always comparing them no matter how hard you try not to.

Ric Flair had some memorable matches in TNA with top stars like Sting, Mick Foley and Hulk Hogan. So hearing Flair that it was his number one regret in wrestling comes as a huge shocker.

Ric Flair remained retired after the end of his tenure in TNA for many years. The Nature Boy shocked the world by announcing his in-ring return at the age of 72. His final match took place at the Starrcast convention at Nashville Fairgrounds on July 31, 2022, which was organized by his on-in-law Conrad Thompson.

The match saw Ric Flair team up with his then-son-in-law, Andrade El Idolo, whose separation from Flair’s daughter, Charlotte Flair, came to light at the start of 2025. The duo battled wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal in a tag team match.

Despite having difficulties in the match and even passing out twice, Flair and Andrade emerged victorious in the bout. While many criticized Flair’s decision and performance, a major section of fans were happy to see him back in the ring after having survived a life-threatening situation a few years prior.
