Nicole Kidman could never be pigeon-holed into one film genre but there is a topic she has never tackled and it’s on her career bucket list.
The 57-year-old actress was named 2025 TIME Woman of the Year on the heels of a year filled with wide-ranging projects — her age-gap rom-com A Family Affair, mystery drama miniseries The Perfect Couple and her erotic thriller Babygirl. Yet, when speaking to TIME about what’s next for her, there was only one topic on her mind.
She told TIME in a Feb. 26 interview that she’s eager to make “an incredible, incredible love story,” adding that she’s in the early stages of making a film about marriage that she’s considering writing herself or collaborating with a co-writer.
“I have the desire to make a film about marriage, like a really, really raw, deep film about marriage and partnership, all of those things,” Kidman, who has been married to singer Keith Urban since 2006, said.

Urban and Kidman met after her divorce from first husband Tom Cruise, to whom she was married from 1990 until 2001. The couple share two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, in addition to Kidman’s two children with Cruise, Bella and Connor.
Kidman was honored by TIME in part due to her 2017 pledge to work with a female director every 18 months. Since then, she has far exceeded the goal, working with 19 female directors on film and TV over the past eight years.
“It was something I wanted to do because the only way to change the numbers was to actually get in the trenches and do it,” Kidman told TIME of her promise. “And so I’m still in the trenches doing it.”
At TIME’s Feb. 26 Women of the Year Gala, Kidman toasted to having more hope as women in a male-dominated field, toasting to the promise to “honor each other, create opportunities for each other, protect each other, and encourage each other.”
“That’s what this room is doing tonight,” she said. “All of you are creating hope.”
