The Los Angeles Lakers were involved in one of the biggest trades in NBA history ahead of the trade deadline as they acquired Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic is now paired up with LeBron James on the Lakers, and the duo is looking good so far. It will take time for Doncic to adjust, but we have already seen flashes of greatness from him and James on the floor together.
Max Christie was also involved in the trade, and he is now with the Mavericks. Christie saw firsthand what this Lakers team was capable of before Luka Doncic arrived, and he knows that the pairing of him and LeBron James can make it far.
“It’s hard to even comprehend for sure. They’ve become a really, really good team,” Max Christie said, according to a post from Christian Clark. “They are a very good playoff contending team. They had a really good win against Denver the other day. They are on a roll right now.”
The Lakers are 3-2 since Doncic made his debut, and Christie is right, that win against the Denver Nuggets was impressive. It’s clear that James and Doncic haven’t fully found their stride working together, but they are only going to get better as they continue to play with each other.
Los Angeles was already one of the better teams in the NBA when they made the trade for Doncic. The Lakers were in fourth place in the Western Conference at that point, and they are still in that position now. However, there will be opportunities to move up a couple spots before the playoffs roll around. The Oklahoma City Thunder are way above the pack as they are in first place in the West with an 8.5-game cushion on the next closest team. However, the Lakers are just two games back of the Memphis Grizzlies and 2.5 games back of the Nuggets. If Doncic and James end up gelling together like they are expected to, this is going to be a scary team that no one wants to see in the playoffs.
