Lakers’ Luka Doncic makes Nico Harrison admission after revenge game vs. Mavericks

New Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic got his first chance for revenge against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, and he took full advantage. Doncic posted his first triple-double as a Laker, helping lead Los Angeles to a 107-99 win over his old team.

Tuesday night was certainly filled with plenty of emotion for Doncic after the Mavericks traded him without warning for Anthony Davis before the trade deadline. After the trade, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison called out Doncic’s conditioning, leaving a sour taste in the Slovenian’s mouth.

Harrison was in attendance in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, but Doncic claims that he didn’t notice him according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

“I didn’t see him in warmups,” Doncic said, per Buha.

Doncic didn’t have a massive scoring night on Tuesday like he did in Saturday’s win over the Denver Nuggets, but he still posted a monster stat line and impacted the game on the offensive end. Despite shooting just 6-for-17 from the field, Doncic scored 19 points while collecting 15 rebounds and adding 12 assists.

The Lakers won this game in large part due to their defensive effort in the final minutes and the heroics of LeBron James on the offensive end in the fourth quarter.

After a barrage of 3-pointers allowed the Mavericks to tie the game with just over six minutes to play, the Lakers locked in defensively and gave up just eight points the rest of the way. That 16-8 run to close the game over those final six minutes was led by James, who scored 16 of his 27 points in the final frame.

This is the second consecutive impressive win for the Lakers after a bit of a slump after the Doncic trade. With the newly-acquired superstar now fully healthy after recovering from his calf injury, the Lakers are steamrolling toward a top-six spot in the Western Conference.

Doncic looks like a man on a mission after the trade and the early returns on the partnership between he and James look very good. The Lakers still have some holes on their roster, the lack of a big man chief among them, but the star power of this team will make it a tough out for anyone throughout the rest of the season.
