“He doesn’t need to hide himself”: Shanks Maybe Vindicated, but One Piece Fans Forget He Did Meet the Five Elders in Mariejois

Ever since Shamrock’s character was introduced in One Piece, fans, particularly Shanks’ admirers, have taken a sigh of relief. This is because it has vindicated him from all the previous allegations that were put on his character. For the longest time, fans have believed him to be the secret villain of One Piece who will betray everyone in the end for his ulterior motive.

From claiming One Piece to taking down Eustass Kid, many moments from the story have forced fans to assume Shanks’ role as a villain, but the biggest one was his meeting with the Five Elders during the Levely in Mariejois. However, with Shamrock’s introduction, it was assumed that he was the one meeting the Five Elders considering his role as the commander of the God’s Knights.

But despite Shamrock’s inclusion, there are still many other aspects that point out that it was indeed Shanks who met the highest authority of the World Government in One Piece. In fact, there is a theory that claims that he was actually there to talk about Blackbeard and his ulterior motives with the World Government in One Piece.

Shamrocks’ admittance has vindicated Shanks

When the One Piece series started, Shanks was believed to be the mentor figure who was placed within the narrative to help Luffy achieve his dream of becoming Pirate King and liberate the world from the tyranny of Imu and the rest of the World Government. This speculation was hyped even more when Shanks stopped the Marineford War and allowed Luffy to escape.

However, there were still doubts about his character as Eiichiro Oda kept his appearance limited and his ambitions a mystery. While fans were trying to figure out Shanks’ intentions, the One Piece storyline showed him meeting the Five Elders in order to discuss a “certain pirate.” From here on, everything he did was seen in a negative way, and it was assumed that he was the final villain of One Piece.

These speculations continued until the Elbaph arc when Shamrock’s character was introduced, and he himself confirmed that he was the elder twin brother of Shanks. Plus, his role as the Supreme Commander of the God’s Knights made it clear that he was the one who met the Five Elders, and he was the reason why One Piece fans thought Shanks to be a villain.

One Piece theory claims Shanks was the one who met the Five Elders

While Shamrock’s introduction does vindicate Shanks from a lot of things, it doesn’t really confirm that Shamrock was the one who met the Five Elders. Just like Shamrock, Shanks’ status as a One Piece Emperor also allows him to meet with the Five Elders, as he is responsible for keeping the balance within the One Piece world.

According to a theory posted by u/feckdech on Reddit, Shanks was the one who met with the Five Elders in order to discuss Blackbeard and his intentions. The One Piece theory claims that as Shamrock is the Commander of God’s Knight, he won’t have a reason to hide his face in the first place, as it does not make sense.

Not only that, the theory also points out that Shanks was there to talk about Blackbeard, as he had an encounter with him in the past. He somehow knows what Blackbeard is after, and it is most likely connected to Imu (possibly his Devil Fruit). If this turns out to be true, it would make sense for Shanks to tell the World Government about Blackbeard, as they might be able to stop him before he wreaks havoc in One Piece.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
