“This is what you asked for”: ‘Boy Meets World’ Star Danielle Fishel Didn’t Hold Back Against Co-Star Maitland Ward but It Wasn’t Her Adult Star Status

It’s practically a rule now, every beloved TV sitcom from the past eventually gets a rewatch podcast, often hosted by the very cast members who once brought it to life. These shows give fans a fresh dose of nostalgia, sprinkled with behind-the-scenes stories and unexpected insights.

Boy Meets World is no exception, with its podcast Pod Meets World leading the charge. But when a language warning flashed before their latest episode featuring Maitland Ward, no one could have predicted just how wild things were about to get!

Maitland Ward and Danielle Fishel engage in a heated argument!

What started as a fun and nostalgic podcast episode took an unexpectedly dramatic turn when Maitland Ward, known for playing Rachel McGuire on Boy Meets World, joined Pod Meets World.

While the conversation initially touched on her career shift into the adult film industry, the real fireworks came later, about 55 minutes in, when Danielle Fishel confronted her with a blunt question about lingering resentment, asking her “Do you hate us?”

From there, the discussion unraveled into years of miscommunication and unresolved tension. Ward recalled sending Fishel a heartfelt Facebook message in 2013, only to later realize she had been unfriended. Unbeknownst to her, Fishel rarely checked Facebook and didn’t even see the message until nearly a decade later when Will Friedle spoke to Ward about appearing on the podcast.

When Fishel finally reached out, Ward opted to save the conversation for the podcast, believing it would make a bigger impact. However, due to the show’s chronological rewatch format, she wasn’t invited on until Season 6, years after that exchange.

Amid the chatter, the discussion touched on the co-hosts’ relationships with Ben Savage and show creator Michael Jacobs, which have over the years turned sour (more on that later). In that context, she said (via Variety),

Let’s be honest about this. You’re trying to go at me now to get the ratings because you know that people will be interested. I just wanted to remember the good times.

To which Fishel responded,

I’m not the one who wanted to go for ratings… This is what you asked for–that’s the time when you want to drag our names through the mud

For Ward, the delay only reinforced feelings of being sidelined, which she had already experienced while visiting the Girl Meets World set in 2015. As tensions bubbled to the surface, what began as a lighthearted trip down memory lane turned into an emotional reckoning between former castmates.

Boy Meets World cast drama explained in brief!

The Boy Meets World cast may have seemed like a tight-knit family on screen, but behind the scenes, things weren’t always as warm. Over the years, the show’s actors have opened up about their struggles, from tense power dynamics to feeling alienated on set.

One of the biggest revelations has been the cast’s complex relationship with showrunner Michael Jacobs. While he shaped the series, some cast members recall his intense control. Danielle Fishel, for instance, shared that he was so unhappy with her line delivery early on that he essentially threatened to fire her if she didn’t improve (mind you she was only 12 then).

Trina McGee, who played Angela Moore in the final seasons, also faced troubling experiences. In 2020, she revealed she was subjected to racist remarks on set, including being called “Aunt Jemima” during hair and makeup and made to feel like an outsider despite being a major part of the show.

Years later, when Girl Meets World premiered in 2014, many original cast members, Savage, Fishel, Friedle, and Strong, returned. However, with time and reflection, they began to recognize just how difficult some of their experiences on the original show had been. As the Pod Meets World podcast became a space for these conversations, one absence stood out, Ben Savage.

Despite being a key figure in both series, Savage has been noticeably distant from his former castmates. In fact, Fishel, Strong, and Friedle haven’t spoken to him in years. His absence became particularly evident after the birth of Fishel’s son in 2019 when he seemingly disappeared from their lives entirely.
