No Tartt, No Problem: ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Knows How to Bring Back Jason Sudeikis Into Soccer Without Ruining His Past Legacy (Report)

Ted Lasso‘s third and final season came to an end in mid-2023, leaving fans wondering if the show would make its way back to the screens or not. While the characters got their respective endings and no announcements have been made for another season, there is still a buzz going around about the possible return and self-reboot of Ted Lasso, where Jason Sudeikis’s titular character takes on a new challenge as a soccer coach.

As per reports, after leaving AFC Richmond on a high note, Ted might be on his way to try something new in his career, that is, if season four actually becomes a thing in the coming days.

What’s in store for Jason Sudeikis and Ted Lasso?

While no official announcement has been made for Ted Lasso‘s much-wanted renewal, there are rumors and reports going around that the show will eventually return to Apple TV+ and this time, it will bring a new story with it.

As per the reports, seasons one to three constitute one whole story – from Jason Sudeikis‘ Ted becoming the coach of AFC Richmond to him leaving the team and boarding a plane to Kansas City to be with his son.

If season 4 does end up becoming a reality, there is one way that Ted could find himself teaching the sport again – women’s soccer. In season three, Keeley Jones and Rebecca Welton toyed with the idea of launching a women’s team at Nelson Road, and who better to coach this rumored team but Ted?

As per a report by insider MyTimeToShineHello, “for season 4, Ted Lasso is now a women’s soccer coach.”

This will be a big shift for both viewers and Ted, but it just might end up becoming just what the character needs for him to find his way back to soccer coaching.

Someone might be missing from the potential Season 4

Fans can expect much of the original cast to return for the possible season 4, including Rebecca, Roy Kent, and Leslie Higgins (via Deadline). However, there is one cast member who might not return to the scene – Phil Dunster.

Dunster played the role of AFC Richmond’s striker, Jamie Tartt. While initially, the character got on fans’ nerves thanks to his arrogant and self-absorbed attitude, Jamie became a favorite as the show progressed.

From passing the ball and letting his teammate score the winning goal to forgiving his father, Jamie’s redemption arc will forever be remembered as one of the best aspects of the show.

Needless to say, fans would love to have Dunster return for the rumored season 4 but it looks like scheduling conflicts will pose an obstacle in the way. As per Deadline, the studio is expected to reel in OG cast members for the fourth season but Dunster hasn’t been picked up and it may be due to the fact that he is working on two separate series at the time – Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour and Apple’s Surface.

Ted Lasso is available to watch on Apple TV+.
