Almost a week later animal herders discovered him stuffed into a sack in Makongo forest, about 60 miles from the city.

After the video of the discovery was posted online, a follower said: “This is very heartless and devastating.”

Another poster added: “This is sad. He didn’t deserve this.”

Cops fear Campbell, 58, was kidnapped and attacked before his body was dumped in the forest.

Local reports say his hands and feet were bound with rope before he was left at the quiet spot.

Pineapples were found alongside him in the sack. It’s thought his killers used them to pretend to be fruit vendors in case they were stopped at a cop roadblock.

Talking to Kenyan paper The Standard, Local administrator Thomas Maitha said: “He appeared to have been tortured.

“The body which was in a bad state, prompted us to escalate the matter further.

“In addition to the physical injuries, the killer  had tied his hands from the back, and stuffed the body in the sack which had been packed with ripe pineapples.”

Campbell, from Dunfermline, Fife, was in Nairobi for a three-day conference.

But the director of credit-scoring firm Fico vanished after leaving his JW Marriot hotel and wasn’t answering his phone.

Cops are probing the theory he was held at a property in the rough Pipeline slum so thugs could drain his bank accounts.

Detectives are understood to have arrested two men, a taxi driver and a nightclub waiter.

A massive search was launched before the grim discovery was made in the forest almost a week later.

It’s thought his body could have been lying undiscovered for several days.

A spokeswoman for his employers said: “FICO can confirm that Nairobi police have identified the body of Campbell Scott.

“Campbell went missing last Sunday while on a business trip to Nairobi. We are not sharing further details, as the investigation is in the hands of the police.

“We are devastated by this tragic news. Campbell was a leader in our international Scores business.

“He joined FICO in 2014 and was instrumental in introducing Scores to new markets and growing our business with existing partnerships.

“We mourn his passing and will miss his humour and kindness. Our thoughts are with Campbell’s family and friends.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Kenya and are in contact with the local authorities.
