Captain America: Brave New World Sets Up The Perfect Solution to Kevin Feige’s Avengers Problem

Assembling the Avengers is going to be a little difficult for Kevin Feige. The phases that have followed Avengers: Endgame did not have heroes that were as wildly popular as the original Avengers roster, which means that the team is going to have to get a little creative with how it is assembled.

Sam Wilson, as of Captain America: Brave New World, is firstly, aware of the multiversal threat that is headed Earth’s way, and secondly, in charge of re-assembling The Avengers in the MCU. Moreover, he lacks the connections to make a team that can get audiences in seats for Avengers: Doomsday. However, there is one classic Avengers storyline that could give the team a roster that can manage to wow fans after all.

The Avengers needs to do a version of ‘Breakout

There are multiple iterations of the Avengers that have found themselves working as a team following a prison breakout. Captain America: Brave New World featured the Raft, which now houses The Leader, and Thunderbolt Ross, who can turn into the Red Hulk. No doubt, Thunderbolts* is probably going to house The Sentry on the Raft too, along with all the other dangerous criminals.

Doctor Doom might need the expertise of The Leader, who figures out the multiversal threat on his own, to meet his goals. This could see the rest of the high-profile prisoners on The Raft escape, causing heroes around the world to mobilize, work as a team, and create The New Avengers that will be led by Sam Wilson.

Capturing all the villains could be a distraction that Doom could put in place to keep people off of his back, which could allow him to get to his goals without having to worry about any heroes coming to thwart his plans. This could lead to the Infinity War-type cliffhanger that could lead to Avengers: Secret Wars.

The team that Sam Wilson is assembling needs to tick several narrative and extra-narrative prerequisites to actually be viable for the MCU. Given that Breakout might eliminate the need for a team that comes from Sam’s circle of superfriends alone, a wider cast of characters could find themselves working together.

Heavy hitters like The Hulk and Captain Marvel are definitely great fits for the team. Characters like Thor might still be too far removed from the team to become a core member, but there are other characters that need to be a part of the story.

Next, the team might require some tech geniuses, which could come in the form of Shuri’s Black Panther and Peter Parker. Magic is also something that has increasingly begun to play a role in the MCU and could require someone like Shang Chi and Doctor Strange to join the team. Now, there is also the fact that a couple of A-List stars in the MCU might elevate the film’s audience, so having Chris Pratt‘s Star Lord on the team (given that he has been promised to return and is currently residing on Earth) might not hurt either.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently in theatres.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on May 1, 2026.
